*Important Reminders for Fall Online Live Spanish Classes 2023*

Age Ranges: These are flexible as we often have siblings joining in the same groups and it always works out great, but here are the basic age ranges per group: Younger= ~4-9. Older= ~10+. Mid= somewhere in between!

Calendar: Fall Online Live Spanish Classes will begin September 6th. No classes on Nov. 22 & 23, Dec. 22-31. Classes for January 1 & 2 (New Year’s) and 15 & 16 (MLK Jr. Day) will be pre-recorded for students to do on their own time to enjoy these holidays with family. This comes out to 2 out of 36 classes per semester being self-paced to respect those holidays. Fall semester classes will finish on January 19th. The spring semester will begin the following week and may also include 1-2 self-paced classes, dates TBA.

Classes are 30 minutes each, twice per week over two 18-week semesters. Families are required to commit to at least one full semester of payment plans. Once classes begin, your spot cannot be given to anyone else. This means that your payment information is locked into the system and auto-charged until you have paid off a full semester.

Cost: See price table below. You will not be charged anything until the week before classes begin. Remember that these are PAYMENT PLANS. Upon registration, you are committed to paying off the full semester price. If you need to back out before classes start, do so as early in the summer as possible. You will only be removed from the payment obligation if your spot(s) can be replaced by another family. Once classes start, there will be no refunds nor payment plan forgiveness.

Location: All classes take place over Zoom. If you ever miss a class, we use a third-party service that uploads the Zoom recording of every class to a Google Drive folder that you will have easy access to. We keep the class recordings available to everyone for at least two weeks afterwards for your child to watch in order to catch up. There are rare occasions where this service fails and it is out of our control, so the best plan is to attend every live class that you are able to! You will receive the class Zoom link one week before classes begin.

Materials: There are no additional materials required for classes beyond normal school supplies and free printouts that I make easily available to you.

Registration Deadline: On May 25th, we will make registration public beyond our email list and social media followers. Once that happens, most groups that are not already full will fill up very quickly and any unregistered families will be moved to a waitlist. It is HIGHLY recommended that you register your children before registration goes public!

Other programs

Online Homeschool Spanish
  • May have a different teacher each meeting
  • Many use old school methods of grammar & vocab memorization
  • Movement is often rare
  • Usually low-tech games
  • Printouts and extra practices often cost extra
  • Usually not much time spent learning culture
  • Often the same curriculum taught no matter the student age
  • Often a lack of continuity from year to year

Learning must be fun and natural! If children are not engaged, what is the point in trying to teach them? Every live class includes games and movement run by teachers who are passionate and skilled in making education FUN! Every class also includes an exciting cultural mini-lessons to keep children motivated and excited for their own future Spanish-speaking adventures! Our curriculum emphasizes natural learning so that children can build their Spanish skills the same way that they learned English. This is the only way to true fluency!

Beginner (first year)

  • The first half of this year is spent helping students build up a solid foundation of the basics.
  • With those basics, we start to dive into more and more immersion challenges, using repetition, visual cues and acting to build strong connections to the most common and important words and phrases in any language! Grammar is learned totally naturally through lots and lots of repetition.

Upper beginner (second year)

  • Deeper immersion through games, books and listening and speaking challenges to continue building those connections.
  • Beginning to learn more complicated grammar, like how to understand and speak about the past in Spanish and use more complex verbs. We occasionally break into ‘grammar mini-lessons’ here to help our more analytical learners, but then it is back to immersion and repetition for a more natural language acquisition experience.

Intermediate (third year)

  • Continuation of last year, focusing on the most difficult of Spanish concepts with a similar philosophy of grammar mini-lessons as introductions followed by instruction for natural acquisition through repetition and immersion. Students are at a point now where we can have more detailed conversations, begin debating in Spanish, watch and listen to very challenging authentic resources and more.

Year Four and beyond

  • 100% immersion. Games, conversations and authentic cultural resources reach the advanced level.
  • As the program grows, we hope to be able to offer virtual international language exchange programs.
  • Travel opportunities are also a future possibility for older students or students with their families if desired.

Classes meet twice per week for 30-minutes each session. Each school year is comprised of two 18-week semesters. There are a few holiday breaks around Thanksgiving and Christmas. Besides that, families can choose to go on vacation or take breaks when they need to and are encouraged to watch the recordings of any classes that they miss.

All live classes happen over Zoom. If you miss a class, you will have access to a private folder with all of the class recordings of the last two weeks that you can watch on your own time.

Instead of homework, we provide weekly extra practices. Sometimes these are a simple as practicing counting to 100 in Spanish and other times they involve making videos to practice a certain conversation topic. They are optional, but highly recommended and extremely beneficial.

What kind of activities do you do in classes?

Virtual background cultural mini-lesson: we learn about amazing places, interesting animals and unique foods in the Spanish speaking world.

Spanish games: guess who, tic tac toe, charades, simon says, speed challenges, and many others!

Lots of movement: Acting out, movement games, short breathing exercises and quick brain breaks! drawing and coloring immersion challenges!

Immersion challenges: listening, speaking, drawing, acting, story-telling and much, much more! The level of immersion builds every semester!

Vocabulary with pronunciation feedback: Practice repeating new vocabulary with feedback on pronunciation, and then putting it into action through books, speaking challenges and other immersion activities!

Spanish conversation practice: Practicing asking and answering common Spanish questions together, putting the new vocabulary and verb usage into action!

Reading: We love creating fun, interactive Spanish books and stories! Students spend lots of time enjoying short stories and challenging themselves through our creative reading comprehension activities!

Grammar mini-lessons: we prioritize learning naturally, but some grammar topics in Spanish just need a little bit of time and discussion! We make these min-lessons as efficient and fun as possible!

Much more! The only real way to see what all the hype around our program is about is to sign up! What are you waiting for? 😁

Do children get to engage with other students during the Zoom class?

Yes! One of the many reasons that homeschool families love our program is because of the great social atmosphere as well and students really feel like their Spanish class peers are friends. As their Spanish-speaking skills develop, they get more and more chances to interact and get to know each other in Spanish. We also recognize the importance of building relationships with students, so whenever there are a few minutes left at the end of class, students can break into English to tell each other about their weekends, introduce their pets, etc.

How many students are in each group?

The average number of students per class is around 11, with 14 being the max that any group will have. We have found that this is the perfect number to create a social atmosphere, be able to play lots of team games and still be manageable in a Zoom classroom format, also giving everyone plenty of opportunities to speak and ask questions whenever they want.

Is it mostly listening and watching the teacher, or is the teacher asking students questions to assess their comprehension of the material?

This is not at all a passive class for students. Students are directly involved in every single activity, can raise their hand to ask a question at any time and will get speaking opportunities every class. We do lots of games and movement breaks as well. Even during listening and immersion activities, there is always an active role for students, such as acting, showing a thumb up or down, showing a certain number of fingers based on prompts, etc. Our classes are all about making Spanish as fun as possible to keep children excited and engaged!

Are parents involved during the Zoom call?
No parent involvement is required at all. For very young children, like 4 and 5-year-olds, depending on how they are doing in class, we may reach out via email and ask that you check in on your child once or twice during the zoom call, but this is rarely necessary.
Will there be homework?
We do not assign homework, but each week includes extra practices. These are optional, but highly recommended. For some weeks, these are as simple as practicing vocabulary by repeating after a recording, while others are virtual games or even occasionally making video recordings to practice Spanish skills. Older students at higher levels will eventually get into reading and writing on their own, but any extra practices for younger kids include recordings and videos to listen and follow along.
What do the live Zoom classes include?

The live classes include:

Fun socializing opportunities in Spanish!
Differentiation and personalization for each student
Conversation practice with teacher feedback
Full immersion activities every class to boost input and confidence
Vocabulary printouts for extra practice
Cultural learning in every lesson to excite children about learning Spanish
Movement and games to keep learning fun and engaging

What are the age ranges of live classes?

Age ranges are flexible, and we often have siblings joining in the same groups and it always works out great, but here are the basic age ranges per group:

Younger groups= ~4-9

Older groups= ~10+

What variety of Spanish are kids exposed to?

Our students are mostly exposed to Latin American Spanish, since kids in the US are more likely to make amigos from Latin America, and Latin American Spanish is extremely versatile!

To make sure that students have an ear for ALL Spanish dialects, we include lots of listening immersion challenges throughout the program, featuring Spanish speakers from every Spanish-speaking country in the world! We also raise awareness in class about different varieties by explaining how the pronunciation of certain words would change in different Spanish speaking countries, or even by mentioning how certain pieces of vocabulary we’ve learned may be called something different in different countries.

What happens if my child missed a class?

All classes are recorded, and the class recording videos can be found in a shared location that you will have access to! So any time a student misses class, they can watch that recording later.

How can I see a sample class?
